YA Scavenger Hunt

Gold Team.jpg

Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors...and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize--one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are SIX contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the GOLD TEAM—but there is also a red team, a blue team, an orange team, a red team, and an indie team for a chance to win a whole different set of books!

If you'd like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

FEROCIOUS FINAL COVER.jpg

Sisters. Stunt girls. Murder. Revenge. This year's Gold Team YASH winner will score copies of both VICARIOUS and FEROCIOUS!

In VICARIOUS, Winter Kim and her sister, Rose, work as high-tech stunt girls for Rose’s ex-boyfriend, Gideon, engaging in dangerous and enticing activities while recording their neural impulses for his Vicarious Sensory Experiences, or ViSEs. Whether it’s bungee jumping, shark diving, or grinding up against celebrities at the city’s hottest dance clubs, Gideon can make it happen for you—for a price.

When Rose disappears and a ViSE recording of her murder is delivered to Gideon, Winter is devastated. She won’t rest until she finds her sister’s killer. But when the clues she uncovers conflict with the neural recordings her sister made, Winter isn’t sure what to believe. To find out what happened to Rose, she’ll have to untangle what’s real from what only seems real, risking her life in the process.

In FEROCIOUS, Winter has learned the truth about her sister's murder, along with some uncomfortable truths about herself. Teetering on the edge of sanity, she travels from St. Louis to Los Angeles to Seoul, South Korea, ready to make the ultimate sacrifice in exchange for revenge.

Paula: Hi guys :) For this year’s YA Scavenger Hunt I’m sharing some pictures of my 2016 trip to Seoul since most of FEROCIOUS is set in South Korea. I taught English in Seoul several years ago and fell in love with the country and culture. Then I returned while writing FEROCIOUS in order to do research on what had changed.

I’ve posted pictures for my blog tour and also on Instagram, but here are a few that I haven’t shared with anyone before now.

The city of Seoul has almost ten million people and a feel similar to that of New York City. Like NYC, Seoul has a complex system of public transportation. The blue line in the middle is the Han River, which Winter crosses multiple times in Ferocious.

Some of the book takes place in the wealthy Gangnam (yes, that Gangnam) district of Seoul. This area is home to many major corporations, and one of the notable features is the unusual, futuristic-feeling architecture of some of the buildings.

But it’s not all bright lights, big city. Nestled amongst the skyscrapers of Gangnam’s Samsung (yes, that Samsung) neighborhood—in fact right across the street from a massive shopping mall--is the Buddhist temple, Bogeunsa. This peaceful pool and green space is part of the temple grounds.

In Ferocious, Winter takes Jesse to a Korean convenience store where he becomes curious about different types of food and ends up buying triangle kimbap. I love this stuff! I know I can make it, but it’s not the same as popping into the 7-11 and picking up a couple on the run. If you don’t know kimbap, it’s generally round like a sushi roll but with cooked meat, fishcake, etc. instead of raw fish. Triangle kimbap takes that excellent combo and turns it into an easy to eat kimbap sandwich!

During Ferocious, Winter and Jesse go to Namedaemun Market for supplies. This is the beautiful Namdaemun Gate (also called Sungnyemun gate) located nearby. Seoul is extremely modern, but the Korean people have also preserved/restored a lot of historic monuments, and I thought this image was a good capture of the mixture of old and new that is present in many areas of the city.

I actually stumbled upon this cultural exhibition of Korean ceremonial dress at Incheon Airport on the way back home. Check out the beautiful colors and draping!

There ends my bonus material for FEROCIOUS, but if you like dark and twisty action stories about strong but vulnerable girls who endure great hardships and fight to reclaim control of their lives, I hope you check out my sci-fi thriller duology. Drop by my own YASH post for another chance to win a book from me. Happy hunting :)

Melissa: And don't forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of books by me, Paula Stokes, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 12. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the gold team and you'll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

CONTINUE THE HUNT
To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author, Fonda Lee!
